We’ve got some new release news to report today...

We’ll start with Shout! and Scream Factory, who have begun to announce their June Blu-ray and DVD release slate. Look for it to include Embattled on 6/1, The Unhealer (2020) and Sesame Street: Cool Counting Collection (DVD only) on 6/8, Sphinx (1981), Kindred (2020), and The Awakening (1980) on 6/15, The Wind Rises (Steelbook), The Secret World of Arrietty (Steelbook), Hunter Hunter, Human Nature: Shout Select (2001), and When Calls the Heart: What The Heart Wants & Before My Very Eyes (DVD only) on 6/22, and Stardust, Just a Gigolo (1978), and Battle Beyond the Stars (Steelbook) on 6/29. You’ll also be able to get a NECA figure of Battle Beyond the Stars’ Saint-Exmin on 6/29 by ordering directly from the Shout website.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment will release Adam Mason’s Songbird on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital on 3/16. Extras will include audio commentary with Mason and co-writer Simon Boyes, deleted scenes with commentary, The Story of Songbird, the Kingdom promo video, and The Making of Kingdom. The MVD Entertainment Group has just confirmed their Spring 2021 Blu-ray releases from the MVD Rewind Collection, which are set to include Action U.S.A. (1989) and Drive (1997) on 5/11, Mortuary (1983) and The House on Sorority Row (1982) on 7/6, and The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films (2014) on 7/20. Most will include significant extras, like audio commentaries, interviews, new and vintage featurettes, and more. Each will also have reversible cover artwork and retro slipcovers.

RLJE Films has set Alexandre O. Philippe’s Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist documentary for release on Blu-ray on 4/13.

Film Movement will release the Swedish film My Little Sister on DVD and Digital on 4/13 as well.

Jinga Films will release the vampire flick Ten Minutes to Midnight on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/22.

And Well Go USA has set Here are the Young Men for Digital only release on 4/27.

Also today, our friends at the excellent Bluray-disc.de website have confirmed with Warner’s German operation that Zack Snyder’s Justice League is set for Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD release in that country on 5/27. That lines up with what we’ve been hearing from our own industry sources here in the States—especially from retail sources—which is that the US release is expected in May as well. And if I had to make a guess based on the German date, 5/25 seems like a reasonable estimate for a US street date. Unfortunately, Warner here says officially that they have nothing to confirm at this time. But we’ll certainly post more when we hear it from them and other sources. Based on the fact that Warner essentially soft announced the 4K release of Snyder’s new Batman V Superman remaster on their social media but without a press release, and the fact that the title is coming from Warner Archive here in the States rather than WBHE, I’m not sure how much any of this will really be officially announced with any kind of fanfare. There definitely seems to be a degree to which these aren’t normal Warner Bros. Home Entertainment disc releases. But we’ll see.

Finally, today marks the 50th anniversary of the release of George Lucas’ directorial debut THX 1138. Our own Michael Coate has worked up a great new History, Legacy & Showmanship retrospective on the film that we were originally planning to post yesterday here at The Bits, but unfortunately we’ve got a database error that needs to be corrected before we can share it. So just know that it’s coming and we hope to have it for you all on Monday. Thanks for your patience.

And that’s all for now. Stay tuned...!
