We’re kicking things off with a trio of additional Blu-ray reviews, including Dennis’ take on Deadbeat at Dawn from Arrow, Tim’s look at Torso, also from Arrow, and David’s thoughts on The Last Hurrah from Twilight Time.

We’ve also got a bit of new announcement news for you...

First, Paramount has just officially announced the Blu-ray and DVD release of The Cloverfield Paradox on 2/5. This has, up until now, been a Netflix exclusive. The film will include Dolby Atmos audio and two featurettes, Things Are Not as They Appear: The Making of The Cloverfield Paradox and Shepard Team: The Cast.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set The Hate U Give for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 1/22. Extras will include audio commentary (by George Tillman, Jr., Amandla Stenberg, Russell Hornsby, Angie Thomas, and Craig Hayes), 3 extended scenes, and 6 featurettes. Audio is 7.1 DTS-HD MA on the Blu-ray editions. [Read on here...]

Let’s start today with some new announcement news...

Lionsgate and Summit Entertainment have just officially set Kin for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 11/20, with the Digital release expected on 11/6. The 4K Ultra HD version will include both Dolby Vision HDR and DTS:X object-based audio. The Blu-ray will also feature DTS:X.

Extras will include audio commentary with co-directors Jonathan and Josh Baker and screenwriter Daniel Casey, the Thicker Than Water: The Making of Kin 8-Part documentary, an Enhanced Visual FX Breakdown featurette, the Bag Man: Original Short (with optional audio commentary by Jonathan and Josh Baker), 10 deleted scenes, and the Learned Behavior: Special Features at Work hour-long round table discussion (with Jonathan and Josh Baker, Dan Trachtenberg, Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert, Laurent Bouzereau, and Kevin Smith). The big news today is that Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set 12 Strong for release on Blu-ray Combo and DVD on 5/1, with the Digital release expected on 4/10. Extras on the Blu-ray will include a pair of featurettes (12 Strong: The Making of an Impossible Mission and Monumental Effort: Building America’s Response Monument). It does not appear that a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray release is forthcoming, though the studio notes that the film will be available digitally in 4K on 4/10.

Also good news: Universal Studios Home Entertainment and GKids are releasing the anime Mary and the Witch’s Flower on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/1. The film was directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi (The Secret World of Arrietty and When Marnie Was There), formerly of Studio Ghibli. Extras will include the Film Completion Press Conference, a Theatrical Promotional Movie, an interview with the filmmakers, the NTV special Creating Mary and the Witches Flower, and A Special Conversation... Sekai No Owari: Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Yoshaiki Nishimura. [Read on here...]

Morning, folks. We’re going to be working on more reviews here at The Bits today, but we do have some interesting release news to report for you before we get started on those.

First, it appears that whatever was going on to delay the Amazon pre-orders for upcoming 4K titles from Warner seems to have been resolved. You can now pre-order Blade Runner: 2049 on 4K (and also Blu-ray – keep in mind the title hasn’t officially been announced, so there’s no street date yet and we don’t know if there will be the 3D and deluxe SKUs in the US) and also Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban – one of the four remaining Potter titles due on 11/7. We expect the others to appear soon and we’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List too. [Read on here…]

Morning, folks! Hope you all had a great weekend. We’ve been very busy here working on new reviews for you.

Along those lines, here’s my thoughts on Warner’s Peanuts Holiday Collection in 4K Ultra HD, Lionsgate’s American Gods: Season One on Blu-ray, PBS’ The Farthest: Voyager in Space and The Vietnam War: A Film by Ken Burns & Lynn Novick on Blu-ray, GKids’ new Blu-ray editions of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli’s animated Ponyo, Princess Mononoke, and Spirited Away, and Tim’s look at Arrow’s new A Fish Called Wanda: Special Edition and Robert Englund’s 976-EVIL from Sony, both on Blu-ray. Whew!

Rest assured, we’ve got more new reviews coming this week, including a bunch more 4K titles, Baby Driver and Spiderman: Homecoming included. So be sure to watch for those. [Read on here…]
