Welcome to the final week of this year’s Hell Plaza Oktoberfest!

To begin the week, we’re giving away a great item over on The Digital Bits Facebook page today – Factory Entertainment’s terrific Dracula Ring prop replica!  Entries will be accepted on the Facebook page until 6 PM (Pacific) and the contest is open to both U.S. and International readers, so head on over there quick and get your entries in.

Special thanks again to our friends at Factory Entertainment for the great giveaway items!  Don’t forget that Bits readers can get an exclusive 25% discount off ANY Factory Entertainment order of IN STOCK ITEMS over $50 on their web store by using the discount code D1G1TALB1TS10 at checkout.  It’s good until the end of the day on Halloween – 10/31 – so be sure to take advantage while you can.

Now then… Dr. Jahnke’s Oktoberfest Blu-ray review for today is Universal’s new Curse of Chucky – do check it out!  [Read on here…]

Also today, our own Todd Doogan has given another great Guillermo del Toro film a spin as released in fine quality by The Criterion Collection – The Devil’s Backbone.  It’s well worth a look.

In announcement news today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially set Justified: The Complete Fourth Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 12/17 (SRP $65.99 and $55.99).  Extras on both versions will include 10 cast and crew commentaries, outtakes, deleted scenes and 3 featurettes (Deadly Serious: Constable Bob, Anatomy of an Episode and The Veteran’s Experience).  The Blu-ray also adds a pair of exclusive featurettes (Becoming Boyd and Script to Screen: The Finale).  The series returns to FX for its fifth season sometime in January.

Sony has also announced the dance tournament film Battle of the Year for release on Blu-ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD on 12/10 (SRP $45.99, $35.99 and $30.99).

And watch for Sony to release Pedro Almodovar’s I’m So Excited on Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 1/7/14 (SRP $40.99).

Also, Shout! Factory has set Marvel Knights Animation: Wolverine vs. Sabretooth for DVD only release on 1/14/14.

And Paramount and CBS will release The April Fools, The War Between Men and Women and Who is Harry Kellerman and Why Is He Saying Those Terrible Things About Me? on DVD only on 1/28/14.

Finally today, a batch of sad news.  We’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the passing (over the last few days) of actress Marcia Wallace (best known for her role on TV’s The Bob Newhart Show and also for providing the voice of The Simpsons’ Mrs. Krabappel), stuntman and filmmaker Hal Needham (director of Smokey and the Bandit and The Cannonball Run among others) and visionary rock and roll musician Lou Reed (who started with The Velvet Underground and went on to have a prolific and highly influential solo career).   Click on their names for more on each.  All will surely be missed.

Here’s a look at the cover artwork for Sony’s Justified: The Complete Fourth Season, Lionsgate’s You’re Next (due 1/14) and Warner’s City of Angels (2/4)…

Stay tuned…
