We’re rounding out the week here at The Bits with more new disc reviews, some new announcements, and a long-overdue column as well.

Starting with those reviews, Stephen and Tim have taken a look at Penelope Spheeris’ Wayne’s World: 30th Anniversary Edition that came out recently on 4K Ultra HD from Paramount Home Entertainment.

Stephen has also reviewed Dominick Barascia, Jr’s Evil Laugh (1986) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans (2022) on Blu-ray from Universal. A 4K UHD review of that title is forthcoming as well.

Also here at the site today, our old friend (and erstwhile Inglorious Trekspert) Mark A. Altman has checked in with a new MOD DEF column looking back at his personal picks for The Best Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD Titles of 2022. I think you’ll find it a good read, so do give it a look. All right, sorry we’ve been a little low-key here at The Bits this week. We’ve been spending our time in one of two ways:

First, we’re recovering from our recent server and Russian bot issues and doing some upgrading and adjusting to make sure everything is working smoothly going forward.

Second, we’re reviewing Blu-ray and 4K titles like mad!

Today, we’ve posted my looks at Universal’s Invisible Man, The: Complete Legacy Collection and Creature from the Black Lagoon: Complete Legacy Collection. Tim has also delivered his thoughts on Maximum Overdrive from Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series. David has offered his thoughts on the Japanese cult classic Battle in Outer Space from Sony. And Dennis has turned in his review of the new City Slickers: Collector’s Edition from Shout! Factory’s Shout Select line-up. Enjoy! [Read on here...]

The big news today isn’t quite official yet, but we expected the press release at any time: Universal will release Steven Spielberg’s Schindler’s List: 25th Anniversary Edition on 4K Ultra HD on 12/18, as we’ve been saying for a while now. In addition to a new 4K scan, the audio will be English Dolby Atmos, with HDR10 high dynamic range. The previous Blu-ray edition will also be included with DTS-HD MA audio.

There’s a new retrospective featurette: Schindler’s List: 25 Years Later, featuring video of a panel and Q&A with Spielberg, Liam Neeson, Ben Kingsley, Embeth Davidtz, and Caroline Goodall recorded at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year. You also get the previous extras and a Movies Anywhere Digital copy. And here’s the deal: The title is now available for pre-order on Amazon.com at this link. You can see the official cover artwork to the left and also below.

Also newly available for pre-order on Blu-ray and 4K are Night School (with a street date of 1/1/19), Halloween (2018), First Man, and The House with the Clock in its Walls. We’ve updated The 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits accordingly. [Read on here...]

We’ve got some interesting new announcement news for you today...

We start today with the Criterion Collection, which has just announced its December slate of titles. Look for it to include Samuel Fuller’s Forty Guns (Spine #954 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Euzhan Palcy’s A Dry White Season (Spine #953 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 12/11, followed by Julien Duvivier’s Panique (Spine #955 – Blu-ray and DVD) and an update of Ingmar Bergman’s Sawdust and Tinsel (Spine #412 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 12/18. We’ve updated the Criterion Spines Project pages here at The Bits accordingly.

Our friends at the Warner Archive Collection have just announced a few new Blu-ray titles, including the Hammer films titles Dracula AD 1972 (1972) and Satanic Rites of Dracula (1974), both starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, along with Bad Ronald (1974), Robert Altman’s Brewster McCloud (1970), and The 100: The Complete Fifth Season (2018). All right, we’ve got a bunch more interesting news for you today…

First though, two more new Blu-ray reviews… Tim has just turned in his thoughts on Scream Factory’s Piranha II: The Spawning on Blu-ray, directed by no less than James Cameron. The disc streets on 7/31, and it’s worth a look.

Also, our own Dennis Seuling has given Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One a look on Blu-ray. That disc streets today and I do expect to review it on 4K Ultra HD as soon as Warner sends a review copy. Watch for that soon and enjoy the BD review from Dennis in the meantime.

Now then… Universal Studios Home Entertainment has just made Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom official for release on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 9/18 (as we predicted weeks ago), with the Digital release expected on 9/4. [Read on here...]

All right, we’ve got a pair of new disc reviews for you…

Tim has taken a look at Lionsgate’s recent Vestron Video Collector’s Series titles, including Dagon and Beyond Re-Animator. Both are worth your consideration, so enjoy the reviews!

Also today, don’t forget that I’ll be at Comic-Con this evening to host the Breaking News from Shout! Factory and Scream Factory panel with Brian Ward and Jeff Nelson. The panel runs from 7-8PM in Room 32AB and there’s a whole bunch of great titles going to be announced! Trust me, I’ve seen the list. You guys are going to dig these. We’ll also have Q&A and a lot of fun, so be sure to join us if you’re down in San Diego tomorrow.

If not, we’ll post the details here on The Bits on Saturday, rest assured. And if you follow me on Twitter (@BillHuntBits), I’ll post the details there immediately after the panel. [Read on here...]

All right, yesterday’s My Two Cents post apparently got corrupted somehow after we posted it. So we’re going to cover much of the same ground today, plus a lot more.

We start things off (again) today with another new Blu-ray review from Tim Salmons. He’s taken a look at the new 3-disc The Last House on the Left: Limited Edition Blu-ray set from director Wes Craven and our friends at Arrow Video. Sounds like it’s pretty damn solid, so do give it a look.

In announcement news, Shout! Factory has unveiled some great new Blu-ray titles, including a Dragnet: Collector’s Edition (street date 10/30) and The Man in the Iron Mask: 20th Anniversary Edition (due 10/9), both as Shout Select releases. The extras are TBA.

Meanwhile, their Scream Factory label chimes in with a House on Haunted Hill: Collector’s Edition (the 1999 film obviously) which is due to street on 10/9. Extras are TBA, but material from the previous DVD release will carry over. Look also for The Wasp Woman (10/30), a Trick ’r Treat: Collector’s Edition (10/9), The Bride (1985) and an Exorcist II: The Heretic – Collector’s Edition (both on 9/25). [Read on here...]

Let’s start with the big news today... Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Studios have just officially set Star Wars Rebels: The Complete Fourth Season for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 7/31. The Disney XD series, which just won a Saturn Award last night for this its final season, wraps up with all 15 episodes in 1080p HD and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio.

Extras on the Blu-ray set will include six audio commentaries with executive producer Dave Filoni, 3 featurettes (Ghosts of Legend, Force of Rebellion, and Kevin Kiner: The Rebel Symphony), plus 8 Rebels Recon segments. You can see the cover artwork at left and also below.

Before we continue, a quick note: We’ve just updated the Release Dates & Artwork section once more here at the site with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-orders. As always, any time you order literally anything from Amazon or Amazon.co.uk (click here) through our links it goes to help support our ongoing work on The Bits and we appreciate it.
