Today’s update is a quickie for a couple reasons...

1) I’m picking up my mother at the airport, here for a two-week visit from North Dakota. Also 2), Criterion just sent Sergei Bondarchuk’s War and Peace for review on Blu-ray.

Honestly, I’m not sure which of those is more of the priority today for me. (I’m kidding. Of course it’s War and Peace. LOL. What mom doesn’t love classic Russian cinema?)

That said, we have some more new Blu-ray reviews for you today... Dennis has posted his thoughts on Greta from Universal and Tim Burton’s Dumbo from Disney.

And I’ve just survived watching Universal’s entire Fast and Furious: 8-Film Collection in 4K Ultra HD over the past two days, and I’ve got a review of that for you too. There are more to come soon, so stay tuned. [Read on here...]

Also here at the site today, we’ve posted the weekly update of our Release Dates & Artwork, with all the latest Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD cover artwork and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, whenever you order literally anything from Amazon after clicking through one of our links, you’re helping to support our work here and we really appreciate it enormously.

By the way, it’s come to our attention that the Release Dates & Artwork section hasn’t been picking up every title available on Amazon each week, and we’re working to fix that. So thanks for your patience.

Meanwhile today, the big news is that our friends at The Criterion Collection have just announced their September slate of Blu-ray and DVD titles, which is set to include Marco Bellocchio’s Fists in the Pocket (Spine #333 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 9/3, Ritwik Gahtak’s The Cloud-Capped Star (Spine #993 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 9/10, Ernst Lubitsch’s Cluny Brown (Spine #997 – Blu-ray and DVD) and John Waters’ Polyester (Spine #995 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 9/17, and Charlie Chaplin’s The Circus (Spine #996 – Blu-ray and DVD) and Bill Forsyth’s Local Hero (Spine #994 – Blu-ray and DVD) on 9/24. You can read more on the specs and features of each here.

And now the speculation begins... what will be Criterion’s 1000th title? Could it maybe... just maybe... include their first 4K Ultra HD? We’ll see...

Stay tuned!
