Criterion’s August slate, Twin Peaks BD extras, Muppets Most Wanted, Toy Story of Terror & Need for Speed!

by

We’ve got a bunch of stuff to go over today to finish off the week...

First up, though, go see Godzilla this weekend if you get the chance. It’s a pretty good film. It’s not perfect, but director Gareth Edwards definitely gets the Godzilla mystique and he’s crafted an interesting and entertaining film. By the way, when you go, you might also get a look at the new trailer for Christopher Nolan’s forthcoming Interstellar, which I’m cautiously getting excited about.

All right, here at The Bits today, our very own Dr. Adam Jahnke has turned in a fine new JET installment featuring his latest An Honor to Be Nominated, this time looking back at director Robert Altman’s Nashville (1975). Don’t miss it. [Read on here...]

Now then... following up on yesterday’s Twin Peaks Blu-ray announcement (due 7/29 – SRP $109.99), in addition to the complete series and the Fire Walk with Me prequel film, here’s a list of the extras you’ll find on the Blu-rays (compiled from CBS’ official press release): Both the original and alternate international version of the pilot, previews and recaps on select episodes, the Log Lady Intros (HD), Twin Peaks Sneak Peeks (HD), image galleries for both season, promos (both HD and SD), deleted scenes from the series, Return to Twin Peaks, a Location Guide, The Glastonbury Archives (17 Pieces of Pie: Shooting at the Mar T Diner, Mark Frost Interview with Wrapped in Plastic, Learning to Speak in the Red Room, An Introduction to David Lynch, Lucy Bumpers, 1-900 Hotline, Production Documents, and additional Image Galleries), Postcards from the Cast, cast and crew interviews, Secrets from Another Place: Creating Twin Peaks (HD), Northwest Passage: Creating the Pilot, Freshly Squeezed: Creating Season One, Where We’re From: Creating the Music, Into the Night: Creating Season Two, Archival Interviews for Fire Walk with Me, Reflections on the Phenomenon of Twin Peaks, and U.S. and international versions of the film’s trailer. All-new content created just for this BD set includes A Slice of Lynch: Uncut (HD), deleted scenes from the series in HD, outtakes (HD), The Missing Pieces: Deleted/Alternate Scenes for Fire Walk with Me (HD), Between Two Worlds (HD – includes Palmer Family Interview and Actors Discussion), Moving Through Time: Fire Walk with Me Memories (HD), a Fire Walk with Me photo gallery, and Atmospherics (HD – includes Trees/Woods, Pie, Signs/Places, Coffee, Notes, Water, Donuts, Owls, The Ring, and The Red Room). Based upon that list, it looks like the only things that didn’t carry over from the Gold Box DVD set are the Georgia Coffee commercials and the SNL skits, and I would guess that’s probably for licensing reasons. So if you want them, you might want to hang onto the Gold Box DVD set. Here’s a look at the open Blu-ray box contents (with Amazon pre-order link)...
