It’s official: Paramount sets the Star Trek: The Next Generation feature films for 4K Ultra HD release on 4/4!

by

All right, folks—it’s now official! Paramount has finally announced the release of the Star Trek: The Next Generation films in 4K Ultra HD with a street date of 4/4 (right in time to celebrate “Star Trek Day” on 4/5) just as we first revealed here on The Digital Bits back in December. The news comes as always via the official StarTrek.com website.

You’ll be able to purchase the films in a Star Trek: The Next Generation – 4-Movie Collection box set, which includes all the films in 4K UHD and remastered Blu-ray in dual multi-disc Amaray cases with a cardboard slipcover, or 4K UHD + Blu-ray or Blu-ray singles, all with Digital Copy codes.

Again, both the 4K release and the accompanying Blu-ray are fully remastered. So these BDs should look leaps and bounds better than the previous 2009 Blu-rays. Note that the 4Ks will include both Dolby Vision and HDR10 high dynamic range, with audio in 7.1 Dolby TrueHD format. [Read on here...]

Like First Contact and Insurrection, the Archives section should include Production and Storyboard Galleries. There should be eleven Deleted Scenes with introduction by Rick Berman. We’ll also need to see what trailers are included (including the Star Trek: The Experience – Borg Invasion 4D teaser), and if the trio of Easter Eggs from the 2005 Collector’s Edition DVD are carried over. But at a glance, this looks like everything else from the original and 2005 DVDs, plus everything from the 2009 Blu-ray release as well.

And here’s a look at the box set...

Star Trek: The Next Generation – 4-Movie Collection (4K UHD + Blu-ray)

Star Trek: The Next Generation – 4-Movie Collection (4K Ultra HD)

This will include all of the above, plus Digital Copy codes.

It should be noted, however, that the content from the 2009 Star Trek: The Next Generation Movie Collection Blu-ray box set’s Evolutions bonus disc is not included here. So not included in these new 4K releases is the following:

  • The Evolution of the Enterprise
  • Villains of Star Trek
  • I Love the Star Trek Movies
  • Farewell to Star Trek: The Experience
    • Klingon Encounter
    • Borg Invasion 4D
  • Charting the Final Frontier

The Blu-rays also included a Star Trek I.Q. BD-ROM Trivia Game. And of course, the 3-part The Captains’ Summit roundtable discussion (with William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, and Jonathan Frakes, hosted by Whoopi Goldberg) from the 2009 Star Trek: Original Motion Picture Collection Blu-ray bonus disc is also not included. So you may wish to keep the Bonus discs from both previous Star Trek Blu-ray movie collection to retain all the previous extras.

All right, if we learn anything new about these releases, we’ll be sure to update this post. Note that all of the titles mentioned above are now available for pre-order on Amazon by clicking on the cover art.

Stay tuned...!
