Warner Archive reveals Looney Tunes Collector’s Vault: Vol 2 for March 24th, plus new Imprint titles & more!
Happy Holidays, Bits readers!
It’s a slow week in the home entertainment industry, what with Christmas fast approaching, Hanukkah having just concluded and other holidays well underway—hey, folks even gathered at Stonehenge in the UK to celebrate yesterday’s Winter Solstice, aka the shortest day of the year. So it’s all sun and games from here on out, and New Year’s is right around the corner!
We’ve got a couple of recent disc reviews to share with you today, though most of The Bits review team is throttling down a bit just to relax and enjoy some well earned holiday time family friends. Nevertheless, today we have...
Stephen’s reviews of Dezső Ákos Hamza’s Sirius (1942) on Blu-ray from Deaf Crocodile Films, as well as Richard Stanley’s Dust Devil (1992) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Umbrella Entertainment.
And Dennis’ take on Paul Auster’s Lulu on the Bridge (1998) on Blu-ray from Imprint Films.
We may have another review of two this week, but if not we’ll definitely have more for you next week after Christmas.
In the meantime, we do have some good new and recent disc announcements to cover here this afternoon...
First, the good folks at the Warner Archive Collection have the 2-disc Looney Tunes Collector’s Vault: Volume 2 for release on 3/24, including “over fifty classic cartoons each marking their first time as part of a remastered Blu-ray WB cartoon collection, with some unseen in decades.” Select shorts will also include audio commentaries. His Girl Friday 4K reviewed, plus Ocean’s, Marvel/Star Wars 4K pre-orders, American Sniper, Republic Horror on Blu-ray, Umbrella’s June & more!
All right, it’s been a busy couple of days here at The Bits in the wake of our reviews of the James Cameron 4K titles—The Abyss, Aliens, and True Lies.
Many of you have reported having trouble getting your pre-orders fulfilled, or have seen shipping dates delayed, whether from Amazon, Walmart, Disney Movie Club, Target, or what have you. This is apparently due to distribution issues resulting from—we strongly suspect—demand for these titles outstripping Disney’s expectations. In any case, more product is being replicated and shipped to distributors and retailers, so these issues should clear up over the next week or two.
Hopefully, this will send a strong message to Disney that people still want to buy catalog 4K titles—a good sign for the future.
Meanwhile, we have one new disc review here at The Bits today: Stephen has taken an in-depth look at Howard Hawks’ His Girl Friday (1940) in 4K Ultra HD from Sony’s new Columbia Classics 4K Collection: Volume 4 box set. More reviews from this set will follow soon.
In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has now officially set Steven Soderberg’s Ocean’s Trilogy for 4K UHD release on 4/30. [Read on here...]

All Quiet on the Western Front 4K is official, plus Magic Mike’s Last Dance, The Man Who Fell to Earth & Star Trek: Lower Decks – Season 3
Another day brings more new disc reviews, and more release and catalog announcement news as well. First, the reviews...
Tim has taken a look at Jesús Franco’s Marquis de Sade’s Philosophy in the Boudoir (1970) in 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Blue Underground.
Dennis has given Curt Siodmak’s Curucu, Beast of the Amazon (1956) a spin on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.
And Stephen has checked in with a review of both the regular 4K UHD and 4K Steelbook editions of Walter Hill’s The Driver (1978) from EMI and 20th Century Fox via StudioCanal in the UK.
Stay tuned for more new disc reviews all this week.
Now then, MPI Home Video has made their 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray Mediabook edition of Edward Berger’s All Quiet on the Western Front (2022) official for release on 3/28. We mentioned the title yesterday of course, but now we know that the UHD disc will feature the film with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. We’re awaiting confirmation of any disc based extras, but we suspect that there are none, thus allowing the film the maximum possible data rates to ensure high A/V quality. [Read on here...]
