We’re closing out the week with more news and several more new disc reviews from the whole Bits team as well.

Those are now available, as is the latest Vestron Video Collector’s Series Blu-ray, which is none other than Derrick Comedy and director Dan Eckman’s Mystery Team (2009). [Read on here...]

All right, this is going to be a quick post, because there’s a LOT going on in Hollywood this week—as you may have seen, and which we’ll get to in a moment—and I’m spending a lot of time today (and especially over the next few days) talking with studio and industry friends, colleagues, and sources for insight and context on all of it.

Now then, the first big piece of news we want to address here today broke early last night: Netflix appears to have won a three-way bidding war (against Comcast and Paramount Skydance) to purchase Warner Bros., in a “megadeal” that’s reportedly worth nearly $83 billion. [Read on here...]

Look for the 4K disc to include Dolby Vision HDR and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, plus all of the legacy special features on a Blu-ray bonus disc. All right, in announcements today, the big news is something we broke on Saturday: Disney has officially set Steven Lisberger’s TRON (1980) and Joseph Kosinski’s TRON: Legacy (2010) for 4K Ultra HD Steelbook release on 9/16. Both gave been carefully remastered under the filmmakers’ supervision by The Walt Disney Film Restoration team to include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Our sources are telling us that some of the early “de-aging” VFX in the latter film have been redone to modern standards. [Read on here...]

In release news today, we have an update for you on Universal’s newly-announced 4K Ultra HD release of Knight Rider: The Complete Series (1982-86), which streets on 7/22. We’ve haven’t got confirmation yet on whether all the original broadcast music will be properly sorted (though Turbine’s 2023 Blu-ray review did have it sorted, so it’s reasonable to assume that it will be—you can review our review of that set here). But we have confirmed that the set will include HDR10 high dynamic range, and that in addition to the legacy special features, the set will include two newly-produced extras as well.
