All right, we’ve got three new disc reviews for you to finish out the week, plus some more great new title announcements. The reviews first...

Stephen has taken a look at David Twohy’s The Chronicles of Riddick (2004) in 4K Ultra HD, as released by our friends at Arrow Video.

Tim has reviewed the Warner Archive Collection’s new Hanna-Barbera Double Feature of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island (1998) and Scooby-Doo! Return to Zombie Island (2019) on Blu-ray.

And Stuart has turned in his thoughts on Francis Ford Coppola’s You’re a Big Boy Now (1996) on Blu-ray, also from the Warner Archive Collection. And how fitting it is that we’re reviewing Coppola’s first feature film, even as what may be his last—Megalopolis (2024)—is now in theaters.

Now then... the big news today is all on the classic TV front: First, Paramount Home Entertainment and CBS have officially set I Love Lucy: The Complete Series for release on Blu-ray for the first time ever! Expected on 11/5, the 33-disc set will include all 180 episodes of I Love Lucy (1951-57), plus all episodes of The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour (1957-60) remastered with long-missing footage restored, plus the newly-colorized episode Lucy and the Loving Cup. In addition, the series’ opening and closing credits have been restored along with many original cast commercials. Three long-lost “flashback” scenes have been remastered. And a portion of the 1959 CBS Fall Preview Special has been included. You’ll also get the original I Love Lucy pilot episode (remastered from original 35mm kinescope), I Love Lucy: The Movie, audio commentaries on select episodes, Lucy on the Radio broadcasts, flubs, slideshows, cast bios, photo galleries, and production notes. We start today with two new disc reviews...

Tim has taken a look at Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs (2024) in 4K Ultra HD from Neon and Decal Releasing.

And Stephen has offered his thoughts on Michael Lehmann’s Heathers (1988) as released in 4K UHD in the UK only by the good people of Arrow Video.

Now then, the big news today is that Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has finally set Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters (2024) for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/22, with the Digital release expected next week on 10/8. The 4K disc will include HDR10 only with Dolby Atmos sound. A 4K Steelbook version will also be available. Extras on all SKUs will include audio commentary with the director, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and 6 featurettes (Tracking the Fronts: The Path of Twisters, Into the Eye of the Storm, Glen Powell: All Access, Front Seat to a Chase, Voice of a Villain, and Tricked-Out Trucks). Blu-ray box set (UK only)—which includes Stephen Herek’s Critters (1986), Mick Garris’ Critters 2: The Main Course (1988), Kristine Peterson’s Critters 3 (1991), and Rupert Harvey’s Critters 4 (1992)—on 12/2, followed by Abel Ferrara’s The Addiction (1995) in 4K (UK, US, and Canada), Marco Brambilla’s Demolition Man (1993) in 4K and Blu-ray (UK, US, and Canada), Kim Jee-woon’s The Good, The Bad, The Weird (2008) in 4K and Blu-ray (UK only), and Cody Kennedy and Tim Rutherford’s The Last Video Store (2023) on Blu-ray (UK and US) all on 12/9. The big news today is that Marvel and Disney have just officially set Shawn Levy’s Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) for release on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on 10/22, with the Digital release expected on 10/1. The 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio on a 66GB disc. There will be a wide-release 4K version in Amaray packaging, along with dual limited-edition Steelbooks one of which features Deadpool on the cover with a red interior, and the other featuring Wolverine on the cover with a yellow interior. A Walmart-exclusive Amaray version will also include “pop-up” packaging featuring the Deadpool corp. Regardless of which version you buy, the disc will contain audio commentary with Shawn Levy and actor Ryan Reynolds, a gag reel, 4 featurettes (Finding Madonna: Making the Oner, Practical Approach: Celebrating the Art of Ray Chan, Loose Ends: The Legacy of Heroes, and Wolverine), 3 deleted scenes (Elevator Ride, Do Nothing, and Daddy’s in Love), and “Fun Sack” (Dr. Deadpool, Product Review, and Wade is Back). Stephen has turned in his thoughts on John Mackenzie’s The Long Good Friday (1980) in 4K Ultra HD from the Criterion Collection.

Stuart has offered his take on a trio of new and recent Blu-ray titles, including Daniel Mann’s Come Back, Little Sheba (1952) from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and the 1965 French anthology film Six in Paris (1965) and Larry Kent’s The Bitter Ash (1963) from Vinegar Syndrome.

Tim has taken a look at Tinto Brass’ Frivolous Lola (1998) in 4K Ultra HD from Cult Epics.

And finally, Dennis has delivered a review of Penny Lane’s documentary Nuts! (2016) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.

In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has finally made Aaron Sorkin’s The West Wing official for Blu-ray on 10/1, in honor of the NBC series’ 25th anniversary. [Read on here...]

Stephen’s look at Roger Donaldson’s No Way Out (1987) in 4K Ultra HD from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.

And Tim’s thoughts on Jeff Lieberman’s Squirm (1976) on Blu-ray, from KLSC’s Kino Cult line.

Also today, we’ve have word from retail sources (and customers who have pre-ordered the tiles) that Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment’s recently street-dated 4K catalog titles—Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest (1959), Mel Brooks’ Blazing Saddles (1974), and James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984)—have been pushed to 11/19 from 11/5. That probably has to do with the added time needed to replicate enough production to meet demand. Adjust your plans accordingly.

In any case, be aware that North by Northwest (1959) and Blazing Saddles (1974) will each include HDR10 and Dolby Atmos audio, while The Terminator (1984) will include both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio.

In terms of special features The Terminator will also include Creating The Terminator: Visual Effects & Music, The Terminator: Close to the Real Thing, Unstoppable Force: The Legacy of the Terminator, and 7 deleted scenes. (It appears that the video-based features may be all-new.) Blazing Saddles will include Inappropriate Inspiration: The Blazing Saddles Effect, scene-specific commentary with Mel Brooks, Blaze of Glory: Mel Brooks’ Wild, Wild West, Back in the Saddle, and additional scenes. And North by Northwest will include audio commentary with screenwriter Ernest Legman, North by Northwest: Cinematography, Score, and the Art of the Edit, Destination Hitchcock: The Making of North by Northwest, The Master’s Touch: Hitchcock’s Signature Style, North by Northwest: One for the Ages, and A Guided Tour with Alfred Hitchcock. We also have the final cover artwork for the wide-release 4K of The Terminator, which I suspect was delayed by the need for James Cameron approval (and the fact that he has finally approved it is why we now have a street date). Stuart’s take on Patrice Leconte’s The Hairdresser’s Husband (1990) on Blu-ray from Kino Classics.

And Dennis’ thoughts on Bert I. Gordon’s The Food of the Gods (1976) on Blu-ray from American International Pictures via Kino Lorber Studio Classics’ new Kino Cult line.

More discs are on the way this week as well, so be sure to watch for them.

It’s a slow morning for release news, but we do have a couple things for you.

First, Paramount has set ZAZ: The Collection! for release on 4K Ultra HD on 11/19. That’s Zucker, Abrahams & Zucker to you! The collection will include Airplane! (1980), Top Secret! (1984), and The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! (1988). The first two are new to the format.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics is going to be releasing Claude Miller’s Deadly Circuit (1983) on Blu-ray on 10/29. The company has also revealed that Herbert Ross’ Play It Again Sam (1972) is coming soon to Blu-ray, while Michael Anderson’s Orca (1977) is coming soon to 4K Ultra HD. [Read on here...]

Tim has taken a look at the new animated double-feature of Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan’s The Addams Family (2019) and The Addams Family 2 (2021) in 4K Ultra HD from Shout! Studios.

And Dennis has offered his thoughts on Frank Borzage’s The Shining Hour (1938) and King Vidor’s Northwest Passage (1940) both on Blu-ray from the Warner Archive Collection.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics has just revealed that Sidney Hayers’ Circus of Horrors (1960) is coming to 4K Ultra HD on 10/29, but with an SDR only grade (probably due to limitations with the original camera negative).

Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment and HBO have set Veep: The Complete Series for release on Blu-ray on 10/22, in a new 13-disc set. This follows closely in the wake of Warner’s newly-announced release of The West Wing: The Complete Series in a new 28-disc Blu-ray set on 10/1. Both are obviously timed to the upcoming Presidential Election here in the States.
