All right, we’ve got some great new release announcement news to report today and some BD and DVD catalog news as well...

First up, Universal has just set the Coen Brothers’ Hail, Caesar! for Blu-ray and DVD release on 6/7 (SRP $34.98 and $29.98). Both versions will include 4 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Directing Hollywood, The Stars Align, An Era of Glamour, and Magic of a Bygone Era). You can see the cover artwork to the left and below (with the Amazon.com pre-order link).  [Read on here…]

I’m working on a few more of those Ultra HD reviews for posting over the next couple days, so today’s update is going to be brief. But we do have a few interesting items for you today...

First up, our own Tim Salmons has just kicked off his latest installments of his Dailies: Pick-Ups column. This week, Tim’s going to catch up with a few great Blu-ray titles from our friends at Arrow Video, the first of which is Buddy Cooper’s The Mutilator (1985). Do give it a look.  [Read on here…]

Okay, we’re rounding out the week with a little title announcement catch-up. My plan had been to post a new UHD review each day all week, but then of course it became obvious that the Star Wars Blu-ray announcement was about to happen and that threw off the plan, as such things often do. I do have a review of Sony’s 4K UHD Blu-ray of Chappie in the works, which is a true 4K title, and I’ll have that for you Monday. Look for more UHD reviews next week as well.

That said, our own Tim Salmons has just posted a review of one of my favorite films of 2015, Ryan Coogler’s Creed, which is now available on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video. It’s a great film with tons of heart – a Rocky sequel that actually stands on its own beautifully. Stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone really shine in it. Do give it a look.  [Read on here…]

I’m trying to remember when I put it all together, when it dawned on me that there were these wonderful movies, shown, at the time, when there were only three local stations and local guys programmed the movies, after the last late show. They were cheap, even I could see that, but there was just something about these black and whites that kept me fascinated and many a long night I would suffer through local commercials just to see either justice done or perverted.

And the titles – Private Hell 36, Shack Out on 101, Kiss the Blood Off My Hands and Five Against the House. And the actors, has-beens and wanna-bes, but they were just terrific. Tom Neal and Ann Savage and Dennis O’Keefe and Preston Foster and Lawrence Tierney. And this was the “B” list.  [Read on here...]

Just a heads-up: Our own Russell Hammond has just posted the weekly update of the Release Dates & Artwork section, featuring all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover artwork with Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anytime you order stuff from Amazon through our links you’re helping to support our work here at The Bits and we surely do appreciate it!

Now then... we have a little bit more official information on Disney’s new Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Walt Disney Signature Collection, due on Blu-ray/DVD Combo on 2/2 (with digital release on 1/19).  [Read on here…]

We’re starting the new week off with more Blu-ray reviews, as promised. First up is my detailed take on Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies – Extended Edition, which is set to street from Warner Home Video on 11/17. The Extended Edition of this film is the best of the trilogy, so it’s definitely worth a look if you’re a fan of these films. Also, our own Jim Hemphill has taken a look at Frank De Felitta’s Scissors (1991) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. And we’ll have two more new BD reviews for you on Tuesday was well, starting with my thoughts on Paramount’s new Terminator Genysis early tomorrow morning. So be sure to check back for that.  [Read on here…]

All right, let’s wrap up this week in style, shall we?

We’ve got a final Halloween Hangover “Leftover” review for you today from our own Tim Salmons: A look at Freddie Francis’ Dr. Terror’s House of Horrors (1965) now available on Blu-ray from Olive Films. If you’ve enjoyed Tim’s review work this Halloween season, be sure to drop him a note on his Facebook page and send him a little love. He’s worked hard and done a fantastic job. Well done, Tim!

I should also mention that I’ve just gotten a few big new Blu-ray titles (for some of the bigger spring and summer films) and I’m going to be posting reviews next week. So be sure to stay tuned for them.  [Read on here…]
