My Favorite Movies & Blu-rays of 2015

Well, I promised a couple of “Best of” lists, and here they are (I was a bit of an overachiever and got the lists done quickly, so... you’re welcome). Please keep in mind that this is simply my personal favorite movies or titles based on what I’ve actually seen throughout 2015 and it doesn’t necessarily represent both sides of the industry as a whole. This is, more or less, my favorite of the movies and Blu-ray Discs that I saw in 2015.  [Read on here...]

Pick-Ups for the Week of December 7, 2015

Welcome back to a new edition of Pick-Ups!

Sorry for the lack of reviews from myself lately. After the massive review coverage I did for Halloween, I decided to take a little break and tend to some personal business at home (as well as stuff myself on Thanksgiving goodies). Now I’m back and I thought I’d cover some titles that we haven’t covered here at The Bits just yet, including some that are hot off the presses.  [Read on here...]

Halloween Hangover! – 2015

We all miss Dr. Jahnke here at The Digital Bits, especially his annual Oktoberfest reviews during the Halloween season. So since I'm a big fan of horror movies myself, we’re going to carry on that tradition in the same spirit, but mix it up a bit. I’ll be spending the month reviewing not just the newest horror titles currently hitting the market, but also some others that we haven’t covered here previously and that you might have overlooked (all of which are well worth your time and hard-earned cash). It should be a lot of fun and we hope you’ll join us all month long for it Hopefully, I’ll still be standing afterwards… having a Halloween Hangover.  [Read on here...]

R.I.P. Wes Craven 1939-2015

Yesterday marked the tragic passing of Wes Craven, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away at the age of 76.

Since this man and his work affected many of us and was tied to me personally and what I do here at The Bits, I felt compelled to share my bit of history with Wes Craven and maybe get across more firmly why he was such an influence on all of us. [Read on here...]

In this week’s installment of Pick-Ups, we’re going to catch up on some more recent Scream titles on Blu-ray.

It should go without saying that we’re big fans of Scream Factory here at The Digital Bits. It’s terrific that they seem to have helped generate more interest in not just big horror titles, like They Live and Halloween, but also horror movies that tend to have been forgotten over the years. We also appreciate when they debut obscure horror movies that haven’t had a release on Blu-ray before, let alone DVD. Their efforts also encourage other companies to dig deeper for similar titles. So the more support that physical media gets, the better, eh?  [Read on here...]

Welcome back to my Dailies feature, Pick-Ups!

It’s designed to feature older Blu-ray and DVD releases that we haven’t gotten around to reviewing until now (sorry about that!), as well as highlight select international releases and other unique titles on disc. I try to do this column on a weekly basis, so be sure to check back regularly for more titles that are worthy of your attention.

Being a big fan of the cult TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000, I decided that it was time for The Bits to have all of the wonderful boxed sets available from Shout! Factory in our database. [Read on here...]
