We’re kicking things off here today at The Bits with a trio of Blu-ray reviews. First up is Tim’s take on Kino’s new BD release of John Huston’s western The Unforgiven from 1960. Also, I’ve posted a pair of Blu-ray reviews from the original Bits website, featuring my take on MGM’s Rocky: The Undisputed Collection from 2009, which contains Rocky I-V and Rocky Balboa, and Fox’s landmark Alien Anthology Blu-ray set from 2010, featuring multiple remastered versions of Alien, Aliens, Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection, plus a truly massive amount of special edition extras – truly one of the best film franchise box sets ever released on Blu-ray.  [Read on here…]

We’re stating today’s post here at The Bits with a new History, Legacy & Showmanship column from our very own Michael Coate, featuring a look back at the theatrical debut of Disney’s Mary Poppins on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary. The TWO PAGE column features a great roundtable interview with authors/film historians Sheldon Hall, Kim Holston, Matthew Kennedy, Jeff Kurtti and Charles Solomon, and lots more release information. We’ve got another Blu-ray review for you today: Tim Salmons has checked out Robert Rossen’s All the King’s Men (1949) from Twilight Time. Enjoy!

Also today, a couple of quick announcements…

First, we’ve finally got a look at the new Blu-ray packaging for Sony’s re-issued Breaking Bad: The Complete Series, which is due on Blu-ray and – for the first time – DVD on 6/3. You can see it on the left there. Here’s the best part: The SRP is MUCH lower. Amazon has the SRP set at $230.99 for the Blu-ray, plus 30% for a final price of just $160.99. Meanwhile, the DVD is $160.99 SRP minus 30% for a price of just $113.49. That Blu-ray price is less than half the $399.99 of the original BD set, so good news indeed for fans. We’ve got a new Blu-ray Disc review for you today. Dr. Jahnke has given Twilight Time’s new Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia Blu-ray a spin – a Sam Peckinpah classic. The film is great and it sounds as though Twilight’s done a very nice job on the disc’s A/V quality and extras too. Don’t miss it.

Just to let you know, I’ll be back early tomorrow morning with my review of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug on Blu-ray – the theatrical edition that arrives in stores tomorrow.

Also here at The Bits today, our own Russell Hammond has updated the Release Dates & Artwork section with all the latest Blu-ray and DVD cover art and Amazon.com pre-order links. As always, anything you order from them in the same session after clicking through our links helps support our work here at The Bits and we surely do appreciate it. Afternoon, everyone!  Hope you all had a fine weekend.

Here at The Bits today, we’ve posted a trio of Dr. Jahnke’s Blu-ray reviews from The Original Bits site to the new review database here, including Warner’s AC/DC: Let There Be Rock – Limited Collector’s Edition, Sony’s Tommy and also Shout! Factory’s Rock ‘n’ Roll High School – one of their Roger Corman’s Cult Classics titles.  As you can tell, there’s a bit of a music theme there.  Enjoy.
