Fury, Carol Burnett, CHiPs, Mythbusters, Tyrant & more announcements, plus Mike Nichols RIP

We’ve got a bunch of announcement news for you today...

First of all, it looks like Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has given David Ayer’s WWII tank film, Fury, a street date – look for it on Blu-ray and DVD on 2/27. We’ll post more details when they’re available.

It seems that Sony has also set the post-rapture/faith-based thriller The Remaining for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/27.

Disney has announced Alexander and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Day for Blu-ray Combo and DVD release on 2/10, followed by Tinker Bell and the Legend of the Neverbeast on Blu-ray and DVD on 3/3.  [Read on here…]

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment is bringing more TV series to DVD only on 1/13, including Tyrant: Season One and The Bridge: Season Two.

Meanwhile, Acorn has set Midsomer Murders, Set 25 for Blu-ray and DVD release on 2/24.

For you classic TV fans, StarVista Entertainment and Time Life are planning to release the first five seasons of The Carol Burnett Show on DVD in 2015.

Here’s more classic TV: Warner Home Entertainment has set CHiPs: The Complete Third Season for DVD release on 3/3, including all 24 episodes on 5 discs for $29.98.

Universal will release My Old Lady on Blu-ray and DVD on 1/27, starring Kevin Kline and Kristin Scott Thomas.

Lionsgate has set Power Rangers Super Megaforce Volume 1: Earth Fights Back for DVD release on 12/9, followed by My Left Foot on Blu-ray on 1/13, and Born of War and Más Negro Que La Noche on DVD on 1/27.

Drafthouse Films and Cinedigm are planning The Congress for Blu-ray release on 12/2.

Cinedigm has also set a Mythbusters: 10th Anniversary Collection for DVD only release on 1/13. It will include 50 specially-selected (by the cast) episodes on 10 discs (SRP $99.99). That same day, look for The Identical on Blu-ray Combo and digital.

And A.D. Vision has set the anime title Outbreak Company: Complete Collection for release on 3/3, followed by The World God Only Knows Goddesses: Season 3 Collection and Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons – Season 2 Collection on 3/10, Devils and Realist: Complete Collection on 3/17, and Student Council’s Discretion: Season 1 Collection and Place to Place: Complete Collection on 3/24. All are Blu-ray releases.

Finally today, some sad news... director Mike Nichols has died at the age of 83. Among his impressive body of work are such classic projects as The Graduate, Working Girl, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, Closer, Catch-22, Charlie Wilson’s War, Silkwood, Annie, Primary Colors, Spamalot, The Birdcage, and Angels in America. Nichols is one of the few to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony Award. You can read more here at Hollywood Reporter.
