Now it’s official: Paramount announces Star Trek Beyond for 11/1, plus Kubo, Oppo 4K & save Film Threat!

by

All right, the big news today is that we finally have the official word from our contacts at Paramount Pictures Home Entertainment: Star Trek Beyond will arrive on Blu-ray Combo, Blu-ray 3D Combo, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD formats on 11/1, with the Digital HD release due on 10/4. There will also be Star Trek Trilogy Collection on Blu-ray, as well as a number of retail exclusive SKUs (see here, here, here, and here). Audio on the Blu-ray and 4K versions will be English Dolby Atmos. Extras on the Blu-ray versions will include deleted scenes, a gag reel, and 9 behind-the-scenes featurettes (Beyond the Darkness, Enterprise Takedown, Divided and Conquered, A Warped Sense of Revenge, Trekking in the Desert, Exploring Strange New Worlds, New Life, New Civilizations, To Live Long and Prosper, and For Leonard and Anton). You can see the final cover artwork to the left and below.  [Read on here…]

Here at The Bits today, I’ve just posted my review of Marvel and Disney’s new Captain America: Civil War on Blu-ray 3D Combo. It’s a damn fun movie, which you probably already know, but the Blu-ray is nice too. And the Blu-ray 3D version even features the film’s IMAX sequences in full 1.78:1. The film is well worth your time on disc, so do give the review a look. It’s now available in stores.

Also this afternoon, Universal has set Laika’s Kubo and the Two Strings for Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, and DVD release on 11/22.

And in other news today, our friends at Oppo Digital have just revealed that their first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player – the UDP-203 – is expected to arrive before the end of the year. You can see it here...

It looks to be priced the same as the BDP-103 Blu-ray player at $499. Photos by Chris Heinonen on Twitter from CEDIA (see here) suggest that the player will feature a 7.1-channel analog output, a pair of HDMI outs, optical and coaxial digital outs, and a trio of USB 3.0 ports. We expect official details to be revealed in the weeks ahead.

Finally today, we’re working on more new disc reviews here at The Bits, but we did want to call your attention to one other thing around the Net. Our old friend Chris Gore, of Film Threat and Attack of the Show fame, is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to bring back Film Threat online. The campaign has just 6 days left and has almost reached its goal, so – if you’re a fan – head on over there pronto and pitch in to get them across the finish line.

We’ll leave you with a look at the final cover artwork for Star Trek Beyond (click on the covers to pre-order the titles on Amazon.com – note that theses covers below are the final versions)...
