Force Friday II is here, plus War for the Planet of the Apes on 10/24, T2 4K delay & new BD reviews

by

All right, welcome to the start of the long Labor Day weekend here in the States! Sorry for the lack of a news post yesterday. We’ve been having a heat wave here in SoCal this past week, and on Wednesday my power went out no less than three times. The final occasion was 1 AM and it was out ALLLLLLLL damn night, which meant I didn’t sleep a wink. So I pretty much needed yesterday to recover. Thankfully with the air conditioning restored.

Anyway, we’ve got a couple new Blu-ray reviews for you to check out today. Tim has taken a look at Arrow’s new Steelbook release of Brian Yuzna’s Society and also the Enter the Ninja/Revenge of the Ninja: Cannon Classics Double Feature, a Region B release from the fine folks at Umbrella Entertainment. Enjoy!

Tim has also turned in a new Dailes column in which he runs down a bunch of interesting new and recent indie horror titles on Blu-ray and DVD from Uncork’d Entertainment and Wild Eye Releasing. You’ll find that here, so do give it a look. [Read on here…]

In announcement news today, while we don’t have the official press release yet, it appears that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has just set War for the Planet of the Apes for release on Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 10/24 (SRP $34.99, $29.99, $29.99, and $39.99, respectively). Also coming that day is the Planet of the Apes Trilogy box set on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD (SRP $49.99 and $69.99). You can see the official cover artwork to the left and below. As soon as the official details are revealed, we’ll update this post.

Lionsgate has officially delayed the 4K Ultra HD release of James Cameron’s Terminator 2: Judgment Day until 10/31. No word on why, but it could simply be taking longer than expected to replicate the title. Adjust your plans accordingly.

Universal has set Luis Prieto’s Kidnap, starring Halle Berry, for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/31.

BBC Home Entertainment has announced a new Sherlock Gift Set for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/31 as well, which includes the entire series so far.

And for you fans of Criterion, a hint in their latest newsletter suggests that Tony Richardson’s Tom Jones may be coming soon to the Collection. Thanks to Bits reader Steve L. for the heads-up.

All right, I could be forgetting something but then that’s just how it goes for now. We’ll leave you with a look at some new Blu-ray and 4K cover artwork for titles mentioned above and more. Click on the covers to pre-order them on Amazon (and we surely do appreciate the support!)...
