FUNimation’s “Speed-Head” Racer box, They Call Me Bruce?, Warner Archive’s Illustrated Man & Jay Thomas RIP

We’re kicking things off today with two more Blu-ray reviews: Tim’s taken a look at Dusty Nelson’s Effects (1978) and Tom Hanson’s The Zodiac Killer (1971) on disc from Synapse Films and AGFA. Sounds like both are worth a look, so enjoy the reviews. And be aware, that I’ve working on a new Blu-ray review and several more new 4K Ultra HD reviews myself, so watch for those over the next few days.

In announcement news today... FUNimation has finally set Speed Racer: The Ultimate Collection for release on Blu-ray/DVD Combo box set on 11/7. This whopping 10 Blu-ray/16 DVD box set will come in “Speed-Head” packaging and will include Speed Racer: The Complete Series (1967) on both Blu-ray and DVD, the original Japanese version of Mach GoGoGo (1967) on both Blu-ray and DVD, and also the newer Mach GoGoGo “Restart” (1997) series on DVD only. Extras will include a new interview with voice actor Connie Orr (aka Trixie) and a collectible keychain. You can see the packaging above-left and below. [Read on here…]

Broadgreen Pictures has announced Wish Upon for Blu-ray Combo, DVD, and Digital HD release on 10/10.

I forgot to mention this when I posted the news yesterday, but in addition to Samurai Jack: The Complete Series on Blu-ray, Warner and Adult Swim are also releasing Samurai Jack: The Complete Fifth Season on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/17 (SRP $29.98 and $24.98). That’s the show’s final installment, that just aired recently on the cable net. Speaking of which, Samurai Jack: The Complete Series is now available for pre-order on Amazon for $112.99.

Scream Factory will release the indie horror film A Dark Song on Blu-ray on 9/5.

Here’s a trip: Kino Lorber will release They Call Me Bruce? on Blu-ray on 10/24.

On a related note, Well Go USA has set Legend of Bruce Lee: Volume Three for DVD release on 10/3. This is a 3-disc set that includes 10 episodes.

PBS Distribution has set Ireland’s Wild Coast for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/29. They also have Masterpiece Mystery!: Endeavour – Season 4 coming on Blu-ray and DVD on 9/5.

Paramount is releasing a Holiday Inn: 75th Anniversary Edition on Blu-ray on 10/17.

Film Movement is releasing Glory on DVD on 9/19, a Bulgarian film by directors Kristina Grozeva and Petar Valchanov.

Warner’s DC Universe 10th Anniversary Collection Blu-ray box set is now available for pre-order on Amazon with a street date of 11/7.

The Warner Archive is releasing The Illustrated Man and Innocent Blood on Blu-ray on 9/19, followed by Brigadoon and Waiting for Guffman on 9/26.

And Arrow Video is releasing a new Animal Factory (2000): Special Edition on Blu-ray on 11/7.

Also today, we need to take a moment to acknowledge the passing today of actor and radio personality Jay Thomas, after a battle with cancer. Jay known for his roles on Cheers, Murphy Brown, Ray Donovan, and Mr. Holland’s Opus, as well as SiriusXM’s The Jay Thomas Show. He was 69. You can read more here via The Hollywood Reporter.
