Sony sets Fright Night for 4K, plus Paramount’s War of the Worlds & When Worlds Collide on Ultra HD, Night of the Living Dead & more!

We’ve got some major catalog release news for you today to start the new week off right…

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has just set Tom Holland’s Fright Night (1985) for release on 4K Ultra HD on 10/4. The release will feature a new 4K scan from the original camera negative, with Dolby Vision HDR and a new Dolby Atmos mix along with the previous 5.1 mix and the original stereo as well.

The title will come a Blu-ray version of the film mastered from the new 4K scan that will feature all-new Deleted Scene Storyboards and the never-before-seen alternate Holland/Beyda Spec Trailer, along with legacy extras that include audio commentary by Holland, actors Chris Sarandon and Jonathan Stark, and filmmaker Tim Sullivan, a second commentary with Holland, actors William Ragsdale and Stephen Geoffreys, FX artist Randall Cook, journalist Jeremy Smith and Tim Sullivan, and 3 featurettes (You’re So Cool, Brewster! The Story of Fright Night, What is Fright Night, and Tom Holland: Writing). [Read on here...]

But that’s not all. The package will also feature a Blu-ray special features disc that will add the following all-new features: Fright Night 35th Anniversary Script Read, The Queer Lens: Bryan Fuller in Conversation with Amanda Bearse, A Novel Approach: The Splatterpunk Story of the Fright Night Novelization, and SFX Storyboard Comparisons. You’ll also get additional legacy extras, including: Roddy McDowall: From Apes to Bats, Tom Holland and Amanda Bearse Talk Fright Night, Round Table with Tom, Stephen, and William, Shock Till You Drop Presents Choice Cuts with Tom Holland and Ryan Turek, the First Ever Fright Night Reunion Panel at Fear Fest 2 (2008), the Weekend of Hell Panel with Amanda and Stephen, and a Vintage EPK with Behind-the-Scenes Raw Footage. On a Rumor Mill note, we’re also hearing from multiple industry and retail sources that Sony is working on a Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection: Volume 3 box set for release in time for the holidays that’s likely to include As Good as It Gets and From Here to Eternity, among other titles.

Meanwhile, Paramount has just listed their Paramount Presents: War of the Worlds (1953) and When Worlds Collide (1951) 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition on Amazon with a street date of 9/27, as expected. The former will be included in actual 4K, while When Worlds Collide will be included as a remastered Blu-ray bonus. Click here for the pre-order link. The studio will also release their 4K Steelbook version of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull on 9/20. You can see the cover art below.

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has set the DC Universe animated title Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons for 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray release on 10/18.

Blue Underground has officially announced the 10/25 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray Combo and DVD release of Jens Jørgen Thorsen’s Quiet Days in Clichy (1970), based on the novel by Henry Miller. The release will feature a new 4K scan of the recently-discovered uncut and uncensored original fine-grain negative, with Dolby Vision HDR and DTS-HD Master Audio. Extras will include Songs of Clichy, Dirty Books, Dirty Movies: Barney Rosset on Henry Miller, a Midnight Blue interview with Rosset, a deleted scene, the theatrical trailer, and a poster and still gallery.

And here’s something fun: Call this Rumor Mill-worthy as well, but industry sources have also informed us that Criterion has been working on a new 4K Ultra HD upgrade of George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead for release likely as part of their October slate. Watch for an official announcement soon.

In standard Blu-ray and DVD news, Blue Underground is also releasing Lucio Fulci’s House by the Cemetery on Blu-ray on 10/25, mastered from the recent 4K scan of the original camera negative. The title was released on 4K Ultra HD in 2020.

Lionsgate will release Hot Seat on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/9. The film stars Kevin Dillon, Mel Gibson, Shannen Doherty, and Sam Asghari.

RLJ Entertainment has revealed their August slate, which is set to include Harry Wild: Series 1 (DVD), Ride with Norman Reedus: Season 3 (DVD), Ride with Norman Reedus: Season 4 (DVD), Cow (Blu-ray and DVD) and White Elephant (Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/2, followed by One Land Bridge: Series 2 (DVD) and Nitram (Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/9, Firebite: Season 1 (Blu-ray and DVD), Hidden Assets: Series 1 (DVD), Night’s End (DVD), and Paris, 13th District (Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/16, Too Close: Season 1 (DVD) and Murder at Yellowstone City (Blu-ray and DVD) on 8/23, and 61st Street: Season 1 (Blu-ray and DVD) and Signora Volpe: Series 1 (DVD) on 8/30.

And finally, Kino Lorber Studio Classics has finalized their August slate as well, which will include Good Guys Wear Black (1978 – Blu-ray), A Force of One (1979 – Blu-ray), The Octagon (1980 – Blu-ray), Catch the Heat (1987 – Blu-ray), and High Desert Kill (1989 – Blu-ray – for Scorpion Releasing) on 8/2, followed by Little Man, What Now? (1934 – Blu-ray), Next Time We Love (1936 – Blu-ray), The Trials of Oscar Wilde (1960 – Blu-ray), and Maid in Sweden (1971 – Blu-ray – for Code Red) on 8/9, Samson and the 7 Miracles of the World (1961 – Blu-ray), Kill a Dragon (1967 – Blu-ray), They Went That-A-Way and That-A-Way (1978 – Blu-ray), Electra Glide in Blue (1973 – Blu-ray), Don’t Tell Her It’s Me (1990 – Blu-ray – for Code Red), and Mercenary Fighters (1988 – Blu-ray – for Code Red) on 8/16, When Tomorrow Comes (1939 – Blu-ray), Paths of Glory (1957 – 4K Ultra HD), The Outer Limits: Season One (1963-64 – Blu-ray), and The Outer Limits: Season Two (1964-65 – Blu-ray) on 8/23, and Mysterious Island of Beautiful Women (1995 – Blu-ray and DVD), Mata Hari (1985 – Blu-ray), Summer Heat (1987 – Blu-ray), The Tenth Man (1988 – Blu-ray) on 8/30.
