All right, we’ve got a bit of release news to start the week for you, and we’ll be back with new disc reviews tomorrow.

First up, Walt Disney Home Entertainment has set Ava DuVernay’s A Wrinkle in Time for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 6/5, with the Digital release expected on 5/29. The Blu-ray version will feature English 7.1 DTS-HD Master Audio, while the 4K UHD will include English Dolby Atmos. We believe that the 4K disc will have Dolby Vision HDR as well, but we’re awaiting confirmation of that.

Extras on both Blu-ray versions will include the A Journey Through Time featurette, audio commentary (with director Ava DuVernay, producer Jim Whitaker, co-screenwriter Jennifer Lee, production designer Naomi Shohan, 1st AD Michael Moore, editor Spencer Averick, and VFX supervisor Rich McBride), 4 deleted scenes, bloopers, 2 music videos (I Believe and Warrior). You can see the Blu-ray cover art above left and below. We should have the 4K Ultra HD cover art in the next couple days. [Read on here...]

Also newly announced today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has set The Equalizer for release on 4K Ultra HD on 7/10, featuring 5 never-before-seen deleted scenes (including one that teases The Equalizer 2), plus 6 featurettes (A Villain’s Psychosis, Boston: On Location, A Modern Hero, Joining Forces Again: Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua, Playing the Part: The Cast of The Equalizer, and The Home Mart Advantage: The Action of The Equalizer), and theatrical trailers. The included Blu-ray copy will also add a Vengeance Mode (with Washington and Fuqua), a photo gallery, and 6 more featurettes (Denzel Washington: A Different Kind of Superhero, Equalizer Vision: Antoine Fuqua, Inside The Equalizer, One Man Army: Training and Fighting, Home Mart: Taking Care of Business One Bolt at a Time, and Children of the Night). Audio on the 4K disc will be English Dolby Atmos. You can see the cover artwork below.

Also newly announced for release on 4K Ultra HD is Dirty Grandpa from Lionsgate, due on 6/12, featuring both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Extras will include 4 featurettes (Lessons in Seduction, The Filthy Truth: The Making of Dirty Grandpa, Daytona Heat, and I Got Nothin’ to Hide: A Look at Daytona’s Most Vibrant Drug Dealer), a gag reel, and the Filthy Filmmakers Who Have No Shame audio commentary (on the Blu-ray only).

We’ve updated our 4K Ultra HD Release List here at The Bits to include these titles, along with rumors we’ve been hearing from International retail sources that Universal may be preparing a new 4K UHD release of Michael Cimino’s The Deer Hunter for later in 2018.

In regular Blu-ray news, Disney has also just set a Peter Pan: Walt Disney Signature Edition for release on Blu-ray Disc on 6/5, with the Digital release expected on 5/29, in honor of the film’s 65th anniversary. You’ll get all the legacy BD extras, along with the following new items: Stories from Walt’s Office: Walt & Flight, A “Darling” Conversation with Wendy & John: Kathryn Beaumont and Paul Collins, You Can Fly, and the Never Smile at a Crocodile deleted song.

Lionsgate has set The Forgiven, starring Forest Whitaker and Eric Bana, on Blu-ray and DVD on 5/15.HBO Home Entertainment has set Paterno for release on Digital only on 5/7. We’re not yet sure if there will be a physical media release at a later date. Also, Westworld: The Complete Second Season is beginning to look like an August release on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.

Kino Lorber Studio Classics have revealed that Tiger by the Tail (1970) is coming soon to Blu-ray and DVD, mastered from a new 4K scan, along with El Paso (1949). The complete The Martian Chronicles (1980) mini-series is coming to both Blu-ray and DVD on 6/26. Jack the Giant Killer (1962) is also coming to both formats on 6/12, along with Spetters (1980) and The Late Great Planet Earth (1979).

Full Moon Entertainment is releasing a Laserblast: VHS Retro Big Box Collection on 8/14 that includes the 1978 film on both Blu-ray and DVD with a collectable action figure. That’s a hoot!

And finally today, Media Play News has just announced the winners of their 2018 Home Media Awards, for which I was honored once again this year to serve as a judge. The winner is CBS’s Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series on Blu-ray, but click here to see the complete list. Congratulations to all!
