Finally today, we need to take a moment to acknowledge the passing this morning of veteran Turner Classic Movies host Robert Osborne. Osborne acted in such films as Night Must Fall and later appeared on TV’s The Californians. Not long afterwards, he befriended Lucille Ball, who became a kind of mentor. Turning to writing, Osborne served as a biographer for the Academy Awards, later wrote for The Hollywood Reporter, and introduced the very first film ever to appear on the then-new TCM network, Gone with the Wind. It was the start of a long hosting career on the network. It’s in this latter role, as a cable TV scholar of classic film, that he became most famous and had the greatest impact on audiences, introducing entire generations of film fans to some of Hollywood’s greatest works. Osborne was 84. He will certainly be missed. You can read more about him here.
We’ll leave you today with a look at a little bit of new Blu-ray and 4K cover artwork (click on the cover images to pre-order the titles on Amazon, if available)...
