In release news today, it’s finally official: Warner Bros. Discover Home Entertainment has just sent out their press release announcing William Wyler’s Ben-Hur (1959) and Alan J. Pakula’s All the President’s Men (1976) for 4K Ultra and 4K Steelbook release on 2/17! Both films will include Dolby Vision HDR. Ben-Hur is an 8K restoration of the original 65mm camera negative and will have Dolby Vision HDR. It will also include Dolby Atmos audio, while both titles will include DTS-HD MA tracks representing the original theatrical audio. (Ben-Hur will have its original theatrical audio in 5.0, representing the original 6-track stereo experience). [Read on here...]

We’ve got one last update for you this week, with announcement news and a few more new disc reviews. As always, let’s take a look at the latter first…

Tim has offered his take on Gordon Hessler’s Catacombs (1965) on Blu-ray from Via Vision’s Imprint Films.

Dennis has shared a look at Anthony Mann’s Side Street (1949) on Blu-ray from MGM via the Warner Archive Collection.

And Stephen has taken a look at Hayao Miyazaki’s latest animated feature The Boy and the Heron (2023) in 4K Ultra HD from Studio Ghibli via GKids and Shout! Factory.

Meanwhile, the title announcement news this afternoon begins with this: Imprint Films has revealed that they’re releasing a 4-disc Limited Edition of David Lynch’s Dune (1984) in 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray!

The 4-disc set will include the 137-minute Theatrical Cut on both 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, plus the 177-minute Extended TV Version on Blu-ray. You’ll also get a bonus disc featuring the 93-minute Extended Cut of Ballyhoo Motion Pictures’ terrific feature-length documentary The Sleeper Must Awaken: Making Dune documentary, produced and directed by our friend Daniel Griffith! And we’ve got a few more new disc announcements for you here today, starting with Imprint’s revelation that they’re releasing Wolfgang Petersen’s The NeverEnding Story (1984) on 4K Ultra HD on 11/27, the final of four catalog 4Ks the company is releasing that month! The release is timed to celebrate the film’s 40th anniversary. This will be a 5-disc set that includes the original US Theatrical Cut and the German Extended Cut on separate 4K Ultra HD discs, the former with Dolby Vision HDR and the latter with HDR10. Both cuts will also be included on separate Blu-rays, and you’ll get an additional Blu-ray that features Lisa Downs’ all-new Life After NeverEnding Story feature-length documentary.
