Doogan’s Queue for May 13, 2014

by

So, I got super sick this weekend and I’m still reeling a bit from it, so. This is a) going up a bit late and b) going to be light and loose. I believe you deserve to know what is coming out this week that I think is awesome, so that’s why I’m trying to get this in front of your eyes. Next week will be better – I promise. [Read on here…]

I Frankenstein (Blu-ray Disc)Blade II – The best of the Blades in my opinion. Now on Blu.

Detective Story – Old School Film Noir directed by William Wyler starring Kirk Douglas ... remastered and on Blu. Absolutely on this list.

Doctor Who: An Adventure in Space & Time – I really loved this film when it showed on BBC America. It’s light and fun and informative on the ins and outs of TV production.

Eastbound & Down: The Complete Fourth Season – I loved this show, and this was a great wrap up season.

Flying Tigers – John Wayne stars in this dog fight epic. There are really cool top notch visuals in this WWII flying aces film.

Her (Blu-ray Disc)Her – Quirky and cool done right. Spike Jonze is a master.

I, Frankenstein – Uh, yeah, I got nothing but I’m totally going to watch this sometime this week.

Orange Is the New Black: Season One – One of the best shows put on TV last year. If you don’t have Netflix, you have no excuse now. Jump in.

Overlord – Criterion’s release this week is a really awesome experimental film crafting together found archival footage from WWII into a narrative feature. Most of it works – and the special features really showcase the effort put into the film.

That Awkward Moment – Based on the trailers, this bromance seems like it could be funny. I’ll be renting it.

Again, sorry this was so brief, but you’re getting something and in the end, isn’t that all that matters.

I’m going back to bed. You keep spinning those discs…
