Doogan’s Queue for the week of March 11, 2014

by

Like I said last week – there isn’t too much of note coming this week.

Some good worthwhile stuff, and a few potential cult films – but, aside from the Coen’s new film, it’s a pretty blah week.

But if anything here floats your boat, be sure to click the title and purchase at Amazon – and tell them we sent you (with money, tell them with money).  [Read on here…]

New Releases (Across the Board):

Crave (Blu-ray Disc)Beyond Outrage – Beat Takeshi continues his story about yakuza underboss Otomo’s mission of revenge against the syndicate that dealt and double dealt him into prison. Looks like he survived that stabbing at the end of Outrage. Look for my review of this soon.

The Book Thief – Death himself spins a tale about a young girl growing up in Nazi Germany, based on the NY Times bestseller by Markus Zusak.

Crave – If you want this one on Blu-ray, head to a Best Buy near you – otherwise, it’s a DVD only release everywhere else. Our very own bestest friend and producer of all the best special features, Charles de Lauzirika, makes his narrative feature debut with this story about a man’s journey into darkness. [Editor’s Note: We’ll have an in-depth interview with Charlie about the release up on The Bits very soon.]

Easy Money: Hard to KillRobocop and The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman stars in this sequel to the Swedish crime drama.

Enemies Closer – Van Damme!

Homefront – Statham! In a Sly Stallone scripted movie with Franco as a baddie named Gator. C’mon, it’s a rental at least.

The Hungover Games – A parody so obvious I’ll never see it!

In Fear – Backroads horror in Ireland.

Inside Lleywn Davis (Blu-ray Disc)In the Name of the King 3: The Last Mission – Hopefully the title isn’t lying. Am I right!?!

Inside Llewyn Davis – The Coen’s take a look at a week in the life of a young folk singer living the folk singing life in Greenwich Village during the folk epoch of 1961.

Out of the Furnace – Christian Bale plays brother to ne’er-do-well Casey Affleck who get mixed up with a villainous Woody Harrelson in backwoods Pennsylvania.

42nd Street Forever: The Peep Show Collection: Vol. 1 – I love this series.  Synapse/Impulse brings us a whole bunch of trailers in this series – this batch feature a slew of adults-only titles.

Blu-ray Library Reissues:

This week’s reissues are heavy on the Wayne and Dean, with a nice slash of Aussie horror!

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (Blu-ray Disc)East of Eden

El Dorado

George Washington (Criterion)

Giant

Gunfight at the O.K. Corral

Hatari!

Rebel Without a Cause

Samson and Delilah

Thirst – The classic

TV On DVD (& Blu-ray):

Finally, a selection of TV titles – a slowly becoming classic sci-fi actioner, DirecTV’s sexy police drama and a history show narrated by Bryan Cranston looking at how history is nothing but a list of connected events.

Big History

Farscape: The Complete Season Three – 15th Anniversary Edition

Rogue: The Complete First Season

Next week looks a lot better. Oscar nominees, Disney films and Tom Hanks are in the air – can you smell them?

Keep sniffing and, of course, keep spinning those discs…
