Polygram's video wall
The Polygram Home Video booth, complete with video wall...

Those at the Polygram booth were heavily promoting the upcoming release of the Coen Brothers' latest flick, The Big Lebowski. The booth even included a bowling lane, on which visitors could try their hand at knocking down pins for prizes.

Strangely enough, MGM Home Video didn't have a booth on the show floor. But numerous information packets (distributed in the press room) contained lots of details on their August and September release schedules. Below, you'll find scans of some of the brochures, featuring DVD covers from some very exciting upcoming DVDs!

MGM didn't have a booth, but has lots
of upcoming DVD product to get excited about!

Most exciting is the news (from Dave Miller, marketing manager from MGM Home Video) that a whole series of classic films on DVD are in the offing from the studio. The following does not come from Miller, but word is Casablanca and Gone With the Wind are in the works for November and beyond...!

Can't wait for Logan's Run and 2001!

Well, that's all the DVD news that's fit to print from VSDA. I think you'll agree that more went on here (with regard to DVD) than it seemed based on the press releases only.

I hope you enjoyed The Digital Bits VSDA Coverage! I know I promoted it as nightly, but hey... I'm learning as I go here. My apologizes to anyone who was expecting up-to-the-minute reports. But that said, there wasn't much in the way of real news anyway, and what there was was easily downloadable from Business Wire and the other news services. My real goal here was substance - to give you the kind of access rarely given to the public... to inside information, to closed-doors meetings, and to the perspectives of those within the industry themselves. I think you'll agree that our reports were the most detailed, and our coverage the most in-depth, of any that you'll find on the Net!

More importantly, I can honestly say that I believe the next 6 months holds some very exciting news for DVD! Based on what I've seen and heard here at the show, I believe that all of the holdouts will have announced DVD support by year's end, and will likely have released actual titles. In any case, I'm looking forward to an exciting new year of DVD!

You'll find more celebrity pictures from Friday below, and the VSDA Picture Galley should be up soon. Thanks again and (as ever) Best Wishes!
